About Me

Dr. Griffin is a former professional athlete who practices as a performance psychologist and a licensed mental health social worker with over 20 years of experience treating Veterans dealing with trauma. Like Veterans, athletes are a specialized population, and I take pride in helping athletes maximize their potential to perform at an ultimate level. I aim to strengthen the toughness of the tough-minded and toughen up the soft-minded so that athletes can see beyond their potential and see more than just a seed but what that seed can produce. Don’t die empty and maximize your potential!

Why I Want To Be A Coach

[I am a former professional athlete who practices as a performance psychologist and a licensed mental health social worker with over 20 years of experience treating Veterans dealing with trauma. I take pride in helping athletes maximize their potential to perform at an ultimate level. I specialize in techniques designed to detox toxic thinking that leads to performance anxiety, low self-esteem, low self-confidence, stress, and emotional dysregulation. Knowing that each athlete and their experience is unique, I specialize in athlete-centered therapy and tailor specific skills to meet the needs of my athletes. These mental skill performance enhancement strategies include cognitive and dialectical behavioral strategies, motivational interviewing, emotional regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and psychological skills training (self-talk, goal setting, imagery, and relaxation). These skills are designed to increase concentration/focus, decrease distractions, improve confidence and motivation, and help athletes self-regulate by reducing elevated anxiety and stress, controlling and minimizing negative psychological effects and cognitive distortions that affect performance. As a performance psychologist, I aim to strengthen the toughness of the tough-minded and toughen up the soft-minded so that athletes can see beyond their potential and see more than just a seed but what that seed can produce.

My Coaching Philosophy

To strengthen the toughness of the tough-minded and toughen up the soft-minded so that athletes can see beyond their potential and see more than just a seed but what that seed can produce.

I Best Describe My Coaching Style As…

Democratic/Collaborative: I use a more democratic/collaborative coaching style because I believe it is important that athletes take an active role in helping to determine their goals which skills and methods are most effective to achieve their performance goals. Further, with the coach’s expertise, a more collaborative approach is self-empowering. Albeit, an athlete’s input is an essential element of democratic coaching; collaboration is the most important aspect in the most effective treatment. This coaching style encourages client skills and qualities via motivation, collaborative competency, creativity, self-efficacy, education, commitment, and productivity.
